I work as a freelance arts writer, researcher, and critic, based between Norwich and London, and am a regular contributor to Apollo Magazine. I also write for CNN Style and The Conversation and have recently worked at a script consultant and researcher for Working Title/Monumental Television. I write and present the podcast 'Renaissance Women'. I am passionate about storytelling, particularly in relation to how stories move through time and media. I was recently awarded my PhD from Queen Mary, University of London, which looked at retellings of the story of 'Hero and Leander' in literature, painting, music, and tapestry, between 1580 and 1630.
Over the past five years I have also taught modules on Shakespeare, Renaissance Studies, and Visual Cultures at Cambridge University, Queen Mary, University of London, and the University of East Anglia.
My main areas of expertise are: female painters and patrons, Elizabethan poetry, Italian baroque art, and the court of Charles I.
