I work as a freelance arts writer and critic, based between Norwich and London, and am a regular contributor to Apollo Magazine. I also write for CNN Style and The Conversation. I write and present the podcast 'Renaissance Women'. I am passionate about storytelling, particularly in relation to how stories move through time and media. I am currently completing my PhD at Queen Mary, University of London, which looks at retellings of the story of 'Hero and Leander' in literature, painting, music, and tapestry, between 1580 and 1630.
Over the past five years I have also taught modules on Shakespeare, Renaissance Studies, and Visual Cultures at Queen Mary, University of London and Cambridge University.
My main areas of expertise are: female painters and patrons, Elizabethan poetry, Italian baroque art, and the court of Charles I.
